My Travel Themed Wedding

01 April 2015

As some of you might know I will be tying the knot myself this year as the weeks roll by I get more and more excited about what is to come this May! Today my wedding table stationery arrived from the printers and it felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders as another things is ticked off my huge to-do list!

We decided to use a travel theme for our wedding as it was whilst we were both travelling that fate brought us together in Asia. I was on a three month trip around Asia and my soon to be Husband was on a year out travelling the world. We were both right at the end of our trips when we met, in a small hostel in the north of Thailand.

As well as being a photographer I am also an experienced Graphic Designer and my fiance is a IT genius so we decided that we would design our save the dates and invitations and send them out digitally, as well as build our own website to collect playlist requests, rsvp's and wedding breakfast orders.

We used travel tags in our Save the Date emails (with passport stamps of the places we'd visited and a map of the place we met in Thailand to personalise it) and we used boarding passes for our invitations which were animated gifs so they moved around once the emails were opened.

For our website we had we used travel tags for our page menus and had a hot air ballon for our wedding day countdown. I've included some screen grabs below.

Whilst wedding planning I fell in love with Pinterest I have loads of wedding inspiration boards and I just love everything on there. If you're looking for some inspiration I would highly recommend taking a look, it can get a little adictive once you get into it.

The venue for our wedding is a little shabby chic so I think our vintage travel theme will work well here.

For the place settings I've created individual passports for each of our guests as well as personalised travel tags attached to their wedding favours. The wedding favours are seed tags filled with purple chilli seeds for our guests to grow. The passports include the full menu, a note about our guestbook which is in the form of vintage postcards of our travel photos and a travel map of the journey that brought us together.

There's also a message about the photobooth we created and a personal passport page identifying each guest. There are also pages with passport stamps from the countries which we travelled to back in 2012 and finally a menu for a Thai Curry which we picked up at a cookery school in Chiang Mai, where we first met.

These are the table names which match the luggage tags on each of the tables. We chose locations that mean something special to us, such as the place we met and the place we got engaged.

Below is some of the bunting that I created from travel papers and the tags and a sign for the sweetie table that we'll have in the evening.

We got postcards printed of all our travel photos which we'd never got around to printing before. I gave the postcards an aged vintage feel and left room on the back for guests to leave us their messages and words of wisdom. These cards will make a lovely keepsake and are a lovely travel themed substitue for a guestbook.

We really want our wedding to be relaxed and fun. I hope all our guests appreciate all the love and effort that went into the personalisation of their place settings. I don't think I quite realised the amount of work involved when I first started out on this project, but now it's finished I feel really happy that I've created something unique and personal to us.

Now all that's left to do is sit back and enjoy the big day, and I can't wait!
